The 51 2- and 3-bedroom apartment block at Old Thorns Manor Hotel, near Liphook in Hampshire, represents the largest and most complex example of BS Steels’s work in the hospitality and leisure sector. It is also a prime example of BS Steels’s principal contractor services, working with the owners, and with Roger Hill Architects.
The first major phase of the project, in March 2015, included 3D modelling and design, and provision of structural steel and installation services for construction of a wedding chapel, a new 500-seater ballroom, with upstairs reception area and function room.
BS Steels was then invited to work on the design and construction of a new 51-apartment block. Design, creation and assembly of the steel superstructure alone represented a major project, but BS Steels has also delivered seamless project management on behalf of the client, from design of substructure and superstructure, coordination of all trades, internal setting out, engineering etc.
This partnership approach has delivered a most impressive transformation. Old Thorns is now one of the region’s foremost business, wedding and party venues, with a golf course offering spectacular views across South Downs National Park.
The gallery below shows various stages of the design and construction process, plus some earlier images of the 3D design for the ballroom, and the completed ballroom.
