BS Steels provides expertise for all stages of the design and build of steel frame buildings. Our drawing team can help design and visualise the planned structure. Our fabrication team will then manufacture the required steels, connections and components. And we then deliver to site, for our expert installers to erect the framework.
Offering strength and great design flexibility, steel frame buildings are the choice for a host of purposes. Combines with other materials, such as glass, they can create highly impressive structures.
Steel frames in residential construction
For residential construction, steel frame applications range from extensions, loft conversions, conservatories to complete steel framed new builds. At the high end, architects are responding to purchasers, who are increasingly demanding in terms of stylish design and specification. Steel cantilevers can enhance this effect to provide open plan living and impressive internal spaces. And a steel frame can be the basis of a traditional-looking home just as easily as a modern one.

Commercial steel frame buildings
Steel frame buildings are ideal for warehouses, storage and goods handling facilities. Whether constructing new buildings, or extending existing facilities, steel frames are at the heart of most logistics buildings, both in terms of the external frame and in setting out interior layouts.
BS Steels works extensively with logistics businesses. Where necessary, we work closely with the client to enable as little disruption as possible to existing business. Please see, for example, our Ferryspeed Distribution Centre Jersey project report.
Steel Frames for Offices and Public Buildings
Our project reports include examples of BS Steels’s work in the office sector, and in creating large, open plan public spaces.
Our drawing, fabrication and installation teams were involved throughout the creation of North Kent Community (now Eastgate) Church. A new build, the wide arced span of the roof provides an impressive central space for worship, with kitchen, office space etc at the sides. View project report.
A similarly landmark project was the glass and steel construction of the reception building to London Gateway deep water port. BS Steels was involved throughout, preparing 3D design drawings, manufacturing and erecting the steel framework. View project report.
Steel Frame in Leisure and Hospitality Sectors
BS Steels works extensively in the hospitality industry. Steel frameworks were at the heart of the transformation of the Old Thorns Manor Hotel.
The first major phase of the project, in March 2015, included 3D modelling and design, and provision of structural steel and installation services for construction of a wedding chapel, a new 500-seater ballroom, with upstairs reception area and function room.
BS Steels was then invited to work on the design and construction of a new 51-apartment block. Design, creation and assembly of the steel superstructure alone represented a major project, but BS Steels also delivered seamless project management on behalf of the client, from design of substructure and superstructure, coordination of all trades, internal setting out, engineering etc.
We have also completed many less extensive projects to transform pubs and hotels. Frequently these include a steel framework to extend the property, for example to create new dining areas.
