Highway Works and Repairs
Certification for ISO 9001:2015; National Highway Sector Scheme No 20 qualifies BS Steels to supply, manufacture and install any highways or railway asset involving steel.
An example is BS Steels’ involvement in preparations for the introduction of free-flow tolls at the Dartford Crossing in 2014. Partnering with Osborne, BS Steels was involved with the unloading and installation of gantries, and sign support assemblies, to approaches to both the QEII bridge and the tunnel. Earlier, BS Steels had designed and manufactured eight test gantries, allowing trialling in preparation for reconfiguring the roads and traffic management systems.
BS Steels focusses in particular on delivering a leading service in highway repairs. These include scheduled maintenance as well as being on call for any emergency. Emergencies will often throw up requests to repair or manufacture replacement parts in extremely demanding timescales; our experienced team at Portsmouth is fully equipped and ready to meet such challenges.
Partners/clients include Highways England, Connect Plus, Transport for London and many of the major framework contractors. An additional specialisation, working with Maurer UK and framework operators, is the remanufacture and refurbishment of Maurer road ramp plates (image depicts plates for M25 manufactured, painted with anti-slip and delivered in 3 days).

Expansion joints replacement, M25
The images below show works to replace expansion joints near junction 20 of the M25. This involved removing existing road surfacing and installing road plates, refurbishment of ramp plates off site at our works, installing temporary ramp plates to allow replacement of existing support structure over expansion joint, and cutting out existing supporting structure; followed by removal and replacement of expansion joint, and reinstatement of road structure.
